Gassaky: A New Platform for Reliable, Ad-Free News Reading

Gassaky was born out of my frustration with news websites overloaded with intrusive and cluttered ads. As someone who values clear, distraction-free reading, I wanted to create a platform where readers could enjoy accurate, up-to-date news without the chaos of endless pop-ups and banners.
My inspiration partly came from observing the Disway website. When its design shifted to mimic mainstream media with excessive advertising, I realized there was room for something different—something cleaner. That’s when I decided to start building my own news application, not only as a personal project but also as a trial for a subscription feature in an Android app.
At first, the subscription system had limitations—it only allowed users to subscribe for a week or a month with a single click, without any automatic renewal. After some research and development, I managed to implement a proper subscription renewal system, which now works smoothly. While there were moments of technical difficulty—like a temporary server crash due to unexpected response errors—these hurdles were part of the learning curve. Thankfully, the issues were resolved, and the app has been running fine during testing.
Currently, the app is still in the development stage, and no real monetary transactions have been enabled yet. This means everything is still in testing mode, and no real subscribers are using it at the moment. But that’s the journey of an indie developer—we experiment, learn, and grow.
Looking ahead, I’m open to collaborating with others to expand the project. While my expertise lies in development, I admit that aspects related to editorial work, journalism, and legal compliance are outside my comfort zone. This led me to shift the project’s direction from being purely a news media platform to something more like a hybrid between an encyclopedia, a writing library, and a publishing platform.
One of my long-term dreams is to become a detective fiction writer, and I see Gassaky as the perfect space to nurture that ambition. In the future, I envision it evolving into a digital book platform—something along the lines of Google Play Books or Tempo.com. I’ve already attempted to publish on Play Books, though I haven’t succeeded yet. That’s still a work in progress.
So, this is my introduction to the Gassaky project. You can try it out or download it through the link below. I’m excited to see where this journey takes us, and I hope you’ll be part of it.
